Wolfsburg Borussia Monchengladbach match preview

Wolfsburg and Borussia are both highly ranked and they occupy sixth and fifth place. Borussia has two points more thanks to their last round’s victory, in which Wolfsburg only played a draw and it seems that the “Wolves” are falling in shape. Last season both teams have celebrated a 3-0 victories on their home field in their mutual duels.

Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg has started the new championship with two triumphs against the very strong rivals, Schalke and Bayer, which they celebrated in Leverkusen. It was an announcement that Wolfsburg could finally get a more significant role and would no longer have to fear for survival, however, it is evident that their form is in decline now, so they are in a series of three games without a win. True, they are defeated only once, but that was at home from Freiburg two rounds ago.

Before that, they were saving a point in front of their supporters against Hertha, and they again played a draw in the last round. That was against Mainz at home, and the result was 0-0 at the end and it was the first match in this championship in which they did not score or received any goals. After losing to Freiburg, coach Labbadia has left Gerhardt, Steffen, and Weghorst on the bench, and now he cannot change anything.

Probable lineups VfL Wolfsburg: Casteels – William, Knoche, Brooks, Roussillon – Camacho – Rexhbecaj, Arnold – Brekalo, Mehmedi – Ginczek

Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia is playing well for now, although everything could be divided into matches in front of their fans and guest appearances. They have three wins and they have achieved them all in M'gladbach, against a number of unpleasant rivals. Schalke was the first that lost, then Bayer Leverkusen, and during the week they also mastered the current winner of the Cup, Eintracht from Frankfurt. It is very commendable that they have scored at least two goals in each of those three matches, even three against Eintracht and all in the second half, as well as both against Bayer. They are mostly having problems when playing away, although they scored two goals against Hertha in Berlin, but their defence was very weak and they received four goals.

They have only won one point in Augsburg and they now want to fix that effect. It is quite logical that coach Hecking has decided to change the composition after a defeat in Berlin, with the proviso that center-back Jantschke is absent due to injury, so Ginter was on the center-back, and Beyer jumped in on the right back. Kramer, Neuhaus and Herrmann have played in midfield, and Neuhaus has justified the coach’s trust with two assists. Striker Plea is also in a great form.

Probable lineups Borussia M’gladbach: Sommer – Beyer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt – Kramer – Neuhaus, Zakaria – T.Hazard, F.Johnson – Plea

Verdict:

Wolfsburg has fallen in shape, while Borussia is playing much better at home and therefore it is not easy to predict the winner of this duel. That is why we expect goals on both sides, because Borussia is scoring goals without any problem, as well as Wolfsburg in front of their supporters.
