Valencia Atletico Madrid match preview

Valencia had returned in the very top of Spanish football last season after two bad years and besides taking part in the most prestigious club competition in Europe it again harbours great ambitions about La Liga. Atletico is near the top for years; last year it was runner-up and won the Europa League, while it started the new season with winning the European Super Cup. Their match played at the Mestala last year had ended as a goalless draw, while Atletic won in Madrid 1-0.

Valencia

Valencia is again there where it objectively belongs, which is the top tier of Spanish football and the Champions League, where it returned after several years. Team that manager Marcelino had at his disposal last season promised that Valencia could make a good result and right at the start it shined and was equal to Barcelong but later on Valencia lost steam but it never went lower than the fourth place that it won in the end.

Given the transfers this summer it seemed that the Bats weren’t satisfied with what they achieved last season as they signed two excellent forwards Batshuayi and Gameiro, as well as Russian forward Cheryshev. Defence is stronger for Piccini and Diakhabye, while Wass is in the midfield now. Velencia bought contract for Kondogbia and they want to do the same with Guedes, still, at the beginning of new season they will most probably play with team from the previous one.

Probable lineups Valencia: Neto – Piccini, G.Paulista, Garay, Gaya – Kondogbia, Soler, Parejo, Wass – Rodrigo, Santi Mina

Atletico Madrid

If we can make a viable prediction by just one match than Atletico should have a very successful season. The first official match has brought the Super Cup title, which gets in importance when we know whom they won, their city rival Real Madrid. Atletico had a very good start as Costa scored the fastest goal in the Super Cup history, however, Atletico trailed behind later on and Costa again had to save his team with his second goal. Atletico beat its rival in the extra time and won 4-2 and in that way partially compensated two defeats in finals of the Champions League.

Manager Simone was suspended and could be on the bench but he sent practically the strongest team on the pitch where Savic was stopper instead of Gimenez, while L. Hernandez played on the left flank and not more usual Filipe Luis. The biggest reinforcement this summer, Lemar, also got chance but he didn’t exactly make a name for himself, just like the team’s biggest star Girezmann. L. Hernandez is suspended now and Filipe Luis goes on the left flank, and perhaps Gimenez gets a chance, and that would be all regarding changes.

Probable lineups Atletico Madrid: Oblak – Juanfran, Godin, Gimenez, Filipe Luis – Rodri, Koke, Saul Niguez, Lemar – Griezmann, D. Costa

Verdict:

The two teams played two tough matches last year, when just one goal was scored but we expect now that Valencia will attack now, especially as it plays at its stadium, trying to exploit tiredness of Atletico players. On the other hand the guests have very good Costa and are capable to fight back, which is why we believe that we will see goals on both sides of the pitch.
