This first quarter-final duel is certainly one of the most attractive, given the individual quality of rivals but also what Uruguay and France have shown so far, since Uruguay has celebrated in all four games with just one goal received, while the French celebrated three times and once was a draw. The Uruguayans were the only team that did not receive any goals in the group stage, and they eliminated the current European champion in the round of sixteen, and the French have after the introductory triumph played a draw in the game without too much importance and then in the round of sixteen eliminated the team of Argentina in one of the best matches of this World Cup. Out of a total of six mutual duels, four ended without a goal and two in favour of Uruguay.

Uruguay

Uruguay is certainly the most constant team on the World Cup. From the first match in which they were lucky enough to defeat Egypt in the last few moments, to a great victory over Portugal in the round of sixteen, the Uruguayans are playing at exactly the same pace and they do not deviate from it. They are very strong in defence and as the fruit of such a game is just one goal scored against Portugal, but they were not too efficient. Against Russia, they celebrated with 3-0, however, their rival was left early with one less player on the field, and that game did not have too much significance. We have already mentioned a minimal triumph over Egypt and it was similar against Saudi Arabia, with only one goal scored in that duel.

They are very experienced team and they have been in the same line for a long time, though coach Tabarez has been constantly changing something in this World Cup. Center-back Gimenez had problems but he returned for that duel against Portugal, and there were certain changes in the midfield. What did not change is their offensive duo Suarez-Cavani, who scored five of the seven goals for Uruguay, however, just two of them are the biggest worries before this game because they have injury problems and their performance is questionable. Cavani, who was a double shooter in the victory over Portugal, is particularly questionable and that is a big handicap, while reservists Stuain and Maxi Gomez are waiting for their chance.

France

It is not surprising that the French have delighted us all with their performance at this World Cup, and it can be said that they have timed their form well and they were somehow restrained and played only for the result in the group phase, without a particularly high quality football, while they in the round of sixteen showed why they are big favourites to win the title of world champions. In the first round, the French were lucky enough to defeat Australia with 2-1 and it was quite a weak performance, and they were not particularly good in the match against Peru when they won with 1-0 thanks to a goal by Mbappe, who then announced that he is waking up and that he could start playing better in the rest of this World Cup. In the third round, France has played against Denmark and it was perhaps the worst match in Russia so far and the only match to the quarterfinals, which ended with a score of 0-0.

This result suited the French, leaving them in the first place, and Deschamps jas used the match to rest some players, while the combined team that was on the field was pretty disappointing. But then the French just a few days after the worst match in the championship, played probably the best game in the round of sixteen against Argentina. They took the lead and then received two goals and then showed their character, because from 1-2 they managed to come to 4-2 on the wings of the great Mbappe, who scored two goals and won the penalty. They performed with objectively the strongest team on the field, but now Deschamps has to make some changes, because he cannot count on the midfielder Matuidi, so Tolisso probably goes on the field.

Verdict:

Uruguay did not play well, but they showed how compact and firm they are, however, their biggest problems are injuries of their best players and therefore the French are still favourites in this match. The French also have a longer bench and the match against Argentina has shown that they have started playing better, which is why we believe in their triumph.
