RB Leipzig 1.FC Cologne match preview

The only thing that connects Leipzig and Cologne this season is that they played in European competitions, namely Leipzig still plays in Europa League after elimination from the Champions League, while Cologne was eliminated in the group stage of Europa League. This is also the slightest problem for the “Billy Goats”, which are at the very bottom of Bundesliga table, and have been there for a very long time with a noticeable drawback and they will need a miracle to be saved from the fall. Leipzig oscillates and are now back in a series of two defeats, of which the European one in the end was painless. In the first part of the season Leipzig has celebrated in Cologne with 2-1.

RB Leipzig

Definitely too much oscillation in the team of Leipzig and a lot of unexpected results in this season for the current vice-champion. They are not far from the position they have recently held, but in the last round they were defeated in Frankfurt and they slipped to fifth place with only two points less than the second-ranked Borussia.

They did a great job in Europa League they made a great job when they played in Naples in the first duel of the sixteenth finals, when they celebrated with 3-1 and considering that the rival seemed rather uninterested in this competition, it was expected that it would only be a formality. Instead, they suffered a defeat at home with 2-0 and it could easily happen they even get eliminated. Only Keita and Orban were out of action, while Klostermann was on the bench. Keita is injured and will not play again, while Orban and Klostermann could return.

Probable lineups RB Leipzig: Gulacsi – Laimer, Orban, Upamecano, Klostermann – Demme, Kampl – Sabitzer, Forsberg – Ti.Werner, Augustin

1.FC Cologne

There was a hint of hope for Cologne after they had won the first three victories at the end of the first and the beginning of the second part of the championship, but then they only played a draw with Augsburg and two defeats, and then again in the previous round a draw with Hannover in front of home fans. Definitely too little for the situation they are in, because Cologne only needs victories, since they are now nine points behind the safe zone. What is not a problem for Cologne is that they are scoring goals regularly, but they also received nine goals in the previous four rounds.

In defeat from Eintracht, their new striker Terodda had his day and he scored two goals, but they also received four and were completely outplayed. They were defeated by Hannover in Cologne in the last round, but they at least recorded a draw. Osako has returned to the team and he scored a goal worthy of a draw, and Cordoba was absent, as well as M.Lehmann, who was replaced by Risse. Now, as a refreshment, we expect the winter boost Koziello, and the recovered Bittencourt in midfield.

Probable lineups 1.FC Cologne: T.Horn – Sorensen, J.Mere, Heintz – Risse, J.Hector – Hoger, Koziello – Bittencourt – Osako, Terodde

Verdict:

Leipzig oscillates and is often an unpleasant surprise, but in this match, they are really absolute favourites, against the last-ranked Cologne, which is again in a series of matches without a win, so they will hardly do more on this very difficult hosting.
