RB Leipzig Borussia Dortmund match preview

This is a derby between teams that have a lot in common, with the proviso that Borussia is doing better at the championship table, and they have won three points more, so they are second, while Leipzig is in sixth place. It is common for them that they have played in Champions League this season and after the third place in the group, they continued their competition in Europa League, in which they have both passed in the round of sixteen. Leipzig has lost the previous three games, of which one in Europa League, and Borussia is still without a defeat in the second part of the season but they have a lot of draws. In the first part of the championship Leipzig celebrated in Dortmund with 3-2.

RB Leipzig

After a good period in which they have played four matches without defeat, three of which they won, Leipzig is again in the negative series, because they have lost the previous three duels. Their home defeat in Europa League by Napoli was painless, in the end, because they were more successful in Naples, so they went further. But two of their championship defeats have cost them downfall on the table from the second to the sixth position.

Both took place with the same result, 2-1 and they took the lead in both matches. However, their defeat from the last round is more painful, when they lost at home against the last ranked Cologne. They took the lead in the early stage of the match as in Frankfurt and again the shooter was Augustin, but later they fell and lost. Now, Ti.Werner should be back in the team, and Keita has also recovered, so he might play too.

Probable lineups RB Leipzig: Gulacsi – Klostermann, Orban, Upamecano, Bernardo – Kampl, Keita – Sabitzer, Forsberg – Augustin, Ti.Werner

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia is in decline of form which is manifested not by their defeats but unresolved results, and now they have played two draws again. As in Leipzig, the one in Europa League is like a win, because they have played 1-1 with Atalanta at the end of the round of sixteen. After three draws at the beginning of the second part of the championship, they managed to win three consecutive times, but in the last round, they only played a draw with Augsburg at home. They played very poorly in that match and the atmosphere was very bad, because the fans boycott playing matches on Monday.

Again, Reus was a shooter for Borussia and he is the only one that can get a passing grade, though they performed with the strongest available team. Compared to their match in M'gladbach when they were outplayed, but they won with 1-0, Toprak and Schmelzer have jumped in midfield. Now Akanji could be on the center-back position, Sokratis could take a breather, and Dahoud could substitute Castro in midfield. Sancho and Philipp have recovered and they will probably be waiting for a chance from the bench.

Probable lineups Borussia Dortmund: Burki – Piszczek, Akanji, Toprak, Schmelzer – Dahoud, Weigl – Schurrle, M.Gotze, Reus – Batshuayi

Verdict:

Both teams have played very well in the previous matches, but they mostly manage to score a goal in almost every match. Borussia does not lose easily, but they are quite vulnerable in defence, so Leipzig can use it on their field, and it will be difficult to keep their network intact.
