Manchester United Brighton match preview

Second quarter-final match of the English FA Cup is also a duel between two Premier League teams. Manchester United currently occupies high second place in the table, while the guests from Brighon are 11th and have even 31 points fewer. Besided, their match played at the Old Trafford last autumn had ended as the United’s victory 1-0.

Manchester United

That match tells us in fact that the Red Devils might have a fair deal of problem to defeat Brighton in the FA Cup, especially as atmosphere in the locker room was spoiled after recent elimination from the Champions League by Spanish Sevilla. After the 1st leg of the round of 16 played in Andalusia had ended as goalless draw, everyone expected that team led by manager Morinho routinely win at its Old Trafford stadium but exactly the opposite happened as Sevilla won by 2-1.

Of course, all this will leave a scar on the United psyche, especially as this team has spent huge sum of money to bring new players and in the end they are in the race only for the title in the FA Cup. Still, Mourinho said that will make numerous changes in the starting line-up that will face Brighton compared to match with Sevilla. We need to add that due to injuries this match should skip defenders Jones, Blind and Rojo, midfielder Herrera and forward Ibrahimovic.

Probable lineups Manchester United: Romero – Darmian, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw – McTominay, Matic, Pogba – Mata, Lukaku, Martial

Brighton

Fact that they reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup is a tremendous success for the guests from Brighton, especially if we have in mind that this is a returnee season to Premier League for them after more than four decades of absence. Their main objective was to secure survival in the Premier League and as the things stand at the moment they will succeed in that, given that eight rounds before the end of season Brighton occupies the 11th-place in the table and has even seven points more than teams in the drop zone.

However, last week they lost away to Everton 2-0, which put an end to their great seven-game unbeaten streak of five wins and two draws. In previous three rounds of the FA Cup Brighton eliminated Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Coventry, so match with the United is in fact the greatest challenge for team led by manager Hughton, who at the moment cannot count on injured defender Bong and midfielders Sidwell and Sephens, while winger Knockaert is suspended due to accrued yellow cards.,

Probable lineups Brighton: Ryan – Schelotto, Duffy, Dunk, Suttner – March, Kayal, Propper, Izquierdo – Gross – Murray

Verdict:

We are certain that the Red Devils will try in the FA Cup to make it up to their face for last week’s elimination from the Champions League, but on the other hand this is a historic chance for Brighton to reach final of a competition, and consequently we have opted here for a pick with few goals.
