Liverpool Manchester City match preview

After a great battle for the title that lasted practically till the last minute of the previous season Liverpool and Manchester City open the new season with the Community Shield match. Manchester City was more successful in the said battle and it won the champion’s title, FA Cup and League Cup, while Liverpool found console in winning the Champions League. Their match played last year at the Anfield stadium ended as a goalless draw, while Manchester City won at Etihad by 2-1.

Liverpool

The season starts for Liverpool with a match against team that prevented them from winning two most valuable titles last season, which if they succeeded would deserve to be written in golden letter in the history book of the club from Anfield. Liverpool played excellently and was a leading team for a larger part of the season. The Reds lost only to Manchester City away and had won 97 points and again it wasn't enough, all because of incredible team from Manchester.

On the other hand Liverpool conquered all of Europe and won the Champions League after losing to Real Madrid in the final one year earlier. They learned the lesson and used fact that the opponent was Tottenham, who wasn’t on par with the team from Madrid. Led by manager Klopp Liverpool has developed a distinctive play style who has decided, at least for the time being, to change almost nothing in the team. Sturridge and Moreno left, no one came instead and it is clear with whom they start the season. They didn’t exactly made a name for themselves in the preparatory period, while injured Clyne is out of action.

Probable lineups Liverpool: Alisson – Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, J. MaPick, Robertson – Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita – M. Salah, R. Firmino, Shaqiri

Manchester City

Manchester City won the domestic triple last season, or more precisely all four since they won the Community Shield at the beginning of last season when they won Chelsea. There is disappointment with a new failure in the Champions League, where they couldn’t make that one step more. They had to give their maximum in order to win the title of England champions, given that Liverpool was a truly worthy and very persistent opponent. In the end Manchester City won even 98 points and they couldn’t relax for a single moment. In the FA Cup final they easily dealt with Watford, while in the League Cup they again won Chelsea, although only after a penalties.

Now they want to start the new season with defence of the Community Shield and to show once again that they are better than Liverpool. They traded better, or more precisely they brought one big new name and that is defensive midfielder Rodri from Atletico Madrid. Bit less famous name is Angelino from PSV while experienced stopper Kompany is no longer with the team. Most of main players stayed at the Etihad and it can be said that they are even stronger, and manager Guardiola can combine as much as he wants and again on the pitch will be team that everyone fears. He will surely shuffle the deck for this match.

Probable lineups Manchester City: Ederson – Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko – Rodri, de Bruyne, B. Silva – Sterling, G. Jesus, Aguero

Verdict:

Although the first title this season is at the stake and surely neither of teams wants to lose to their great rival we expect to see an open match at Wembley and goals on both sides of the pitch. Liverpool wants to revenge at least a bit to Manchester City, which in turn wants to defend the title.
