Leicester Chelsea match preview

In this quarter-final match of the FA Cup we have a clash between two last English champions although this season both teams are very far from the achievement. Leicester currently occupies the eight place in the Premier League table, while Chelsea is fifth and has 16 points more. Besides, the Blues were more successful in their head-to-head as they won as guests last autumn by 2-0, while their match played at the Stamford Bridge in January this year ended as goalless draw.

Leicester

With the draw in London Leicester finally put an end to series of four defeats in duels with Chelsea, and this time the Foxes definitely aim a victory as it would mean a place in the semi-final of the FA Cup. The Foxes won nailed to the bottom West Bromwich by even 4-1 in the last league match, while before that they drew two times at home in a row, with Stoke and Bournemouth.

Right those two draws might cost them in the end a place in Europe as at the moment they have even eight points fewer than 6th-placed Arsenal, while ahead of them in the table is Burnley, which has three points more. Regarding their previous FA Cup matches it could be said that draw was merciful to them as Leicester faced just lower-league teams; Fleetwood, Peterborough and Sheffield United. Let’s add that only not fully recovered stopper Huth and midfielder Amartey are questionable for the quarter-final match with Chelsea.

Probable lineups Leicester: Schmeichel – Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell – Mahrez, Ndidi, Iborra, Albrighton – Iheanacho, Vardy

Chelsea

Unlike Leicester, where atmosphere in the locker room is very good ahead of FA Cup match on Sunday, the reigning champions of England were definitely eliminated from the Champions League last week as they lost to Barclona by even 3-0 at the Camp Nou, which in turn passed in the next round with aggregated 4-1. Besides, team led by manager Conte has started to lose steam in the league and eight rounds before the end they lag behind 4th-placed Tottenham for even four points, meaning after a long time Chelsea may easily not qualify for the Champions League.

Of course, two teams from Manchester are partially responsible for the situation as they defeated the Blues recently at home by 2-1 and 1-0, while after that Chelsea struggled but won at home Crystal Palace 2-1. Everyone is clear that Chelsea being in such shape has nothing to hope for in the finish of season and quite certainly it will not have an easy time on Sunday against Leicester in the FA Cup. Out of action are only lightly injured stopper Luiz and midfielder Barley.

Probable lineups Chelsea: Caballero – Azpilicueta, Christensen, Cahill – Zappacosta, Kante, Bakayoko, Alonso – Willian, Hazard – Morata

Verdict:

It is going to be interesting to see have the Blues from London recovered after being eliminated from the Champions League, especially as they will face a team that harbours great ambitions in the FA Cup, given it is already certain that will end up around mid-table in the Premier League.
