Las Palmas Malaga match preview

Las Palmas and Malaga are two last positioned teams, where the hosts are in a bit better shape and have just one point more than the guests who are nailed to the bottom and who need six points more to escape the drop zone. Both teams are in similarly weak shape; Las Palmas won Valencia two rounds ago but was defeated in previous one in which Malaga pulled second consecutive draw, while neither of teams won in previous six rounds. Las Palmas won their first duel in Malaga by 3-1.

Las Palmas

Practically Las Palmas is in trouble since the very beginning of season and this team had even worse periods than the last one. In one of them they didn’t win for eight rounds in a row which nailed them to the bottom of table. Situation is not good at the moment too, however, they managed to win Valencia two rounds ago at home. Las Palmas turned the result up-side down which was enough to swap places with Malaga, which is now the last positioned team.

In previous round they had difficult away match with Altetico in Madird and it wasn’t realistic to expect success. They played well till last half an hour when they felt apart and received three goals, which was by all measure a sound defeat. Las Palmas has brought several new players; Galvez, Penalba and Jairo have already gotten chance to play as starters and we expect to see them now in the same role.

Probable lineups Las Palmas: Chichizola – Macedo, Navarro, Galvez, Aguirregaray – Tana, Penalba, Viera – Toledo, Calleri, Jairo

Malaga

Malaga sinks ever deeper and two draws in two previous rounds had left just a glimmer of hope as draws cannot save them from relegation. Before those two draws Malaga lost four times in a row, or in other words it didn’t win in last two months. Interestingly, the last match it won was against Real Sociedad in San Sebastian. Malaga scored no goals in abovementioned four defeats, while in two previous draws it scored just one. That was enough to win one points from match with Eibar, while in previous round it drew with Gironda 0-0.

Borja Baston is back in top of attack and that was the only change that coach Gonzales has made since he took over the team in mid-January. Since he arrived Malaga drew two matches. Gonzales has huge problems with injuries and on top of it Chory Castro earned red card in previous round and he cannot play now. Samu Garcia will probably replace him and that should be the only change in the team.

Probable lineups Malaga: Jimenez – Rosales, Miquel, L. Hernandez, Ricca – Iturra, Recio, Keko, Samu Garcia – A. Gonzalez, Borja Baston

Verdict:

This is chance for one of two “drowning men” to get closer to the safe zone. If we judge according to their current shape Las Palmas is closer to victory. It has the home-field advantage, which might be decisive, while the guests have huge problem with absences. However, we don’t exclude possibility that Malaga pulls off a draw.
