One of more interesting matches of the Europa League play-off expectedly didn’t bring resolution after the first match but did bring the advantage to Strasbourg. They won at home by 1-0 and that is a good result given they haven’t received a goal. By that it is not good for Eintracht and they will have to give their maximum in the rematch. In the meantime Eintracht suffered the first defeat in the Bundesliga this season and the same happened to Strasbourg.
Eintracht has passed first two obstacles in the qualifications and that was expected given the opponents strength. It wasn’t an easy stroll for the team from Frankfurt and match with the first stronger rival has revealed that are not in the best possible shape. They lost in Strasbourg 1-0 and it was the first match in which they hadn’t scored. It was also the first defeat this season, including all competitions, given they had won in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, just like in the first Bundesliga round.
After Strasbourg comes the first defeat in the league for which they have excuse as they played away with strong Leipzig. Eintracht lost by 2-1 but they scored the consolation goal only in the finish of match. Manager Hutter had decided to finally replaces several starters. Stopper Hinteregger, right back da Costa and midfielder had gotten a break. Rebic and Gacinovic didn’t play as they were injured and these two players are questionable for match with Strasbourg.
Probable lineups Eintracht Frankfurt: Trapp – Abraham, Hasebe, Hinteregger – Torro, G. Fernandes, Rode – da Costa, Kamada, Kostic – Paciencia
Strasbourg also eliminated two rivals before the play-off and both of them were weaker than they but the French team didn’t dominate. They had problems against Maccabi Haifa and Lokomotiv Plovdiv, whom they won both times by 1-0. Strasbourg even lost to Maccabi once but they survived everything and they played probably the best match this season with Eintracht. They won by 1-0 and it is a really nice advantage against such strong rival. Strasbourg had played three league matches but they haven’t won anyone.
They drew in first two rounds; with Metz at home, which is a weak result and Reims away, which is not a failure. Last weekend they met Rennes at home and lost 2-0. They received the first goal quite early, and the second at the beginning of the second half. Near the end of match stopper N’dour was sent off and defeat was inevitable. It was not good development ahead of this away match although excuse can be sought in fact that the strongest team wasn’t on the pitch. Now, we expect to see the same team that created the advantage of 1-0.
Probable lineups Strasbourg: Sels – Lala, Djiku, Kone, Mitrovic, Carole – Lienard, Martin – Thomasson – Ajorque, Zohi
Neither of teams plays outstandingly and they played enough matches. Strasbourg has minimal and definitely reachable advantage and we expect that Eintracht, being last year’s semi-finalist, does exactly that and qualify for the group stage.
