Brazil Belgium match preview

This is the second duel in the quarter-finals between the South American and European teams, and certainly the strongest pair of this round of competition because both teams have been declared favourites to win the championship title, because Brazil and Belgium have not lost any matches so far. The Brazilians started the World Cup with a draw, and then they made three wins and seemed to play better, ending with the triumph over Mexico in the round of sixteen. Belgium has all four victories so far, but somehow it seems they are not really in the right rhythm and the best evidence that they are their big problems in duel with Japan in the round of sixteen. The last match between these two team took place at the World Cup in 2002, when Brazil celebrated with 2-0.

Brazil

For Brazil it can be said as well as for France, meaning that they timed the form for the knockout stage rather than the group stage, where they expected to pass without some spectacular game. Right on the start, they played only 1-1 with Switzerland, though they created some opportunities there, however, as if they were thrown out of the rhythm after that goal received. It turned out that would be the only goal they have received so far, although they had big problems with Costa Rica in the second round and have failed to score any goals until the injury time. At the end, they celebrated a victory with 2-0, and that has relieved them maximally, and they were able to play without pressure against Serbia in the third round and routinely celebrated with 2-0, with a smaller drop in the game at the start of the second half. In the end they won the first place despite all the problems, and had their first opponent Mexico in the round of sixteen.

It is a rival that everyone wants to avoid, and the Mexicans have already shown the quality with their victory over Germany, but for Brazil they are a regular customer and again it was so. In the first part, Mexico has even threatened a number of times, but in the second part, Brazil has shown a much better game and when they scored a winning goal thanks to Neymar, everything was easier. In the finish, Firmino has only confirmed the victory, so Brazil for the third time consecutive time celebrated with a score of 2-0 and they mostly solved their matches in the second half. So far, it is not felt in their game that Danilo and Marcelo are having injury problems, and the second one should even be ready for this match. Coach Tite has not changed anything in the rest of the team, but now he has to because Casimir is suspended, so Fernandinho will probably jump instead.

Probable lineups Brazil: Alisson – Fagner, T.Silva, Miranda, Marcelo – Fernandinho, Paulinho, Coutinho – Willian, G.Jesus, Neymar

Belgium

It is no surprise that Belgium is in the quarterfinals because it was a minimum that was predicted for this team, full of shining individuals, which is why they are even given the chance to go to the very end. They are the only team with Uruguay, which has achieved all four wins in the quarterfinals and it is a nice achievement, but a deeper analysis reveals a lot of problems in the Belgian game. It should be said that they are the most efficient team on this World Cup, with the proviso that they had Panama and Tunisia as opponents in their group, who could not really parry them and they have scored eight goals in those two duels. Two routine victories have secured them placement in the round of sixteen and then this duel with the English was expected as the first serious check of the objective force of this Belgium. There was nothing, because both coaches completely changed their starting lineups and even that duel was not a real measure, with the proviso that the Belgians celebrated with 1-0 and won the first place.

The three wins and the three goals scored were on average were a very good announcement for the opening of the round of sixteen, where Japan was waiting for them, objectively much weaker, but still stronger than Panama and Tunisia. The mild initiative of the Belgians did not bring goals in the first half and then at the beginning of the second they shockingly received two goals. The turnaround begins in the last 20 minutes, but after their coach Martinez made two great changes, by sending Fellaini and Chadli on the field. This first has scored an equalizing goal for 2-2, and the second one brought them a victory in the injury time, though it must be said that the Japanese very not very careful and they have practically gave them this goal. All in all, this was a great warning for the Belgians, in whose composition was the recovered Kompany, and now Carrasco could end up on the bench because of his poor performance in that match.

Probable lineups Belgium: Courtois – Alderweireld, Kompany, Vertonghen – Meunier, Witsel, de Bruyne, Chadli – Mertens, E.Hazard – R.Lukaku

Verdict:

The Brazilians playing better and better and they have been favourites so far, but Belgium has shown that they have the capacity in the offensive part and that is why we believe that they will not resist the rather strong defence of Brazil, while the “Kariokes” should manage to pass the weak Belgian defence and score some goals.
