Borussia Dortmund Augsburg match preview

Borussia is better than Augsburg on the table, but we surely expected at this stage of the championship that the difference would be bigger than nine points, as it is now. It was smaller, but in the second half of the season Borussia has managed not to lose any matches and counting two European League duels, it is a series of eight games. Augsburg is in decline of form and they have only two triumphs in the second half, and two defeats in the previous two rounds. In the first part of the season Borussia has celebrated in Augsburg with 2-1.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia’s positive series is still ongoing and now it is been two months without defeat, all of which they have made four wins and four draws. All four wins were made in a row, of which three were in the championship and one in Europa League. Prior to that, they have played three draws, and then another in the rematch of European Leagues sixteenth finals, which was enough to go further. It is only now clear how valuable this win over Atalanta in Dortmund was, when Batshuayi scored in the injury time for 3-2.

In the rematch they managed to get 1-1 and so they passed, though they did not play very well. Similarly to the previous round, when they scored 1-0 in M'gladbach, the host was much better and goalkeeper Burki was a hero of victory. Reus has scored the only goal, but he was not in the team from the beginning against Atalanta, and the suspended Weigl could not perform at all, while we now expect them both in the team, as well as Schmelzer on the left back.

Probable lineups Borussia Dortmund: Burki – Piszczek, Sokratis, Akanji, Schmelzer – Weigl – Castro, M.Gotze, Reus, Pulisic – Batshuayi

FC Augsburg

After the best game in the second half of the season when they mastered Eintracht with 3-0 in their field, Augsburg has played two bad matches and scored two defeats. They were not able to score any goals in those matches, and the defeat against Leipzig could still be accepted, but the one at home from Stuttgart should not have happened, because the opponent did not have a single away win. They were completely outplayed in Leipzig, and it can be said that those 2-0 is a good result, and Stuttgart was a better rival, although it was expected that Augsburg would have the advantage after the guest had the lead in the middle of the first half.

Logically, after the victory over Eintracht, coach Baum did not want to change much and only Khedira returned to the midfield and after a defeat in Leipzig he did not make any changes. Now he needs to make at least one, because D.Baier cannot play because of yellow cards and the logical substitute is Moravek. Center-back Gouweleeuw and striker Finnbogason are slowly recovering from injury, but the question is whether they will be ready for this match.

Probable lineups FC Augsburg: Hitz – Framberger, Danso, Hinteregger, Max – Khedira, Moravek – Heller, Koo, Caiuby – Gregoritsch

Verdict:

Borussia does not play particularly well, but the results are positive and they are without defeat for a long time, and we expect to be absolutely dominant in this duel, no matter how weak they are. Augsburg is having problems with absences, as well as form, so we believe they will lose.
