The two teams played a great match seven days ago in Thessaloniki but only Ajax can be satisfied with the goal fest. The result read at the end 2-2 and it opens door of the play-off only to the Dutch champion, while PAOK played at its maximum in the 1st leg but that wasn’t enough. In the meantime Ajax won in the Dutch championship, while PAOK didn’t play.

Ajax didn’t start the new season in an ideal way but not in the bad one either. They drew away with Vitesse 2-2 in the first round this can be considered as a failure, although the rival is very good when playing at home and the draw was not bad result. The first match with PAOK ended with the same result and this is still a good achievement considering that Ajay will play the rematch at home. They received the first goal too early and all they could do was to turn the result up-side down and take a lead by 2-1. Later on they received the second goal so they can only console themselves that they put up a good resistance to the last season’s semi-finalists. Now, ahead of PAOK is even more difficult task given that the match will be played at the Amsterdam Arena. Vierinha, Mauricio and Wernbloom are injured and this is an additional problem. It is possible that the same team that started in Thessaloniki will start in Amsderdam.

Verdict:

Ajax seems quite strong at the beginning of season and it scores with ease. The defence is a bit weaker part of the team but that is true only when they play away. We believe now in the absolute dominance of the home team and PAOK won’t have adequate answer for that.
