Both Braga and Spartak have cleared one obstacle till now, both by winning two legs with plenty of scored goals. Braga won and lost in the Portuguese championship, while Spartak won in both rounds. This is going to be their first ever match.
Braga unexpectedly easily eliminated Danish Brondby in the third round. They resolved all dilemmas in the 1st leg played in Denmark where they won by 4-2. They were the first to receive a goal and then they scored two. In the end the match could end as a draw but Braga scored two more goals in the injury time. They won the rematch by 3-1, and then defeated Moreirense by the same result at the beginning of the new season. All this was a great introduction for derby in the Portuguese championship against Sporting but nevertheless they lost the match. They received two goals in the first half and the result read at the end 2-1 which slightly spoiled the atmosphere in the changing room ahead of duel with Spartak.
Probable lineups SC Braga: Matheus – Esgaio, Viana, Santos, Sequeira – Claudemir – Eduardo, Fransergio, Novais, R. Horta – Hassan
Spartak also started the Europa League in the third qualifying round and in the first duel they played away with Thun, which they won by 3-2. The result strongly suggested that Spartak will pass the round and reach the play-off. There were some problems in the rematch when they received an early goal but in the end they won by 2-1. Ponce and Bakaev distinguished themselves in those two matches. Last weekend Spartak played the great derby with the city rival CSKA in the Russian Premier League. Spartak won by 2-1, where stopper Gigot scored two goals, who in that way b
ecome the hero of his team. Forward Ponce didn’t play since he was suspended, but he is definitely the starter now.
Probable lineups Spartak Moscow: Maksimenko – Eshchenko, Gigot, Jikia, A. Lucas – Guliev, Zobnin – Bakaev, Schurrle, Mirzov – Ponce
Both teams were fairly efficient against weaker rivals but we expect a different match now. The stake is high and no team will want to risk, although Braga is a favourite to win due to the home-field advantage. We expect a match with few goals.
