Championships in Greek and Turkey haven’t started yet but Olympiacos has already played two matches in the second qualifying round of the Champions League with Plzen. Basaksehir hasn’t played a single competitive match in the new season and it played poorly friendlies so they have reason to be worried. Olympiacos did well against Plzen, and this is going to be the first match between the two teams.

Basaksehir

Basaksehir fans will remember the previous season for a long time in which their won noting but were so close to win their first title ever. They spent almost the entire season in the first place and then they lost it in last four rounds. Two rounds before the end they played a decisive match with Galatasaray and lost which was the end of their hopes. Basaksehir did modestly in Europe since it ws eliminated at the first hurdle, just like in the Turkish Cup from which they were eliminated in the round of 16. Basaksehir replaced the manager Avci and now that is Okan Buruk, who cannot count any more on experienced Belezoglu and striker Bajic. Forward Crivelli striker and stopper Vieira were supposed to be the strongest reinforcement that came this summer, but they played quite poorly preparatory matches.

Olympiacos

Olympiacos has already passed one obstacle in the Champions League this season, and it did it in a grand style. Given they cannot return at the very top of Greek football they have to play longer in the qualifications and in total those are three rounds before the group phase. The first one was Czech Plzen and they drew away 0-0, which was good result for rematch at home. No goals were scored in Piraeus in the first half but then everything opened in the second half and they scored four goals for sound victory. We do not expect major changes in the team, except perhaps Camara will join the midfield.

Verdict:

Basaksehir can hardly repeat the previous season, although even then they underperformed in European competitions. Still, they will enjoy the home-field advantage now and we expect that Basaksehir will not lose. Olyimpiacos anyway hopes to resolve everything in the rematch in Greece.
