Ajax has already passed two obstacles in the qualifications of the Champions League. It should be add that it relatively easy outplayed Austrian Sturm and Belgian Standard as it lost none of those matches. Dynamo played only in the third qualifying round and it eliminated Slavia Prague after draw and victory. Ajax had a modest start in the league with by one victory and draw, while Dynamo had four triumphs at the start of Ukrainian league. The two teams met in qualifications for the Champions League 2010 and then Ajax won both matches.
Ajax had a perfect start of season in the Champions League as it effortlessly passed two obstacles. Sturm was expectedly lesser problem and after 2-0 in Amsterdam everything was resolved. Ajax won the 2nd leg match by 3-1 and it really seemed capable for high position in those two matches. Everything went smoothly in Liege against Standard, although they dropped their guard after having lead of 2-0, but then they spoiled the impression in the first round of Dutch championship when they merely drew with Heracles at home 1-1.
Manager ten Hag had made several changes in the team and it could be seen on the pitch. The best team played the 2nd leg with Standard and they won 3-0. Previous weekend Ajax struggled a bit with Venlo and managed to win only after penalty, however, bigger problem is injury of Heres who is questionable for this match.
Probable lineups Ajax Amsterdam: Onana – Mazraoui, de Ligt, Blind, Tagliafico – de Jong, Schone – Ziyech, Tadic, Labyad – Huntelaar
Beginning of season was almost perfect for Dynamo. It started with the Super Cup where it won its biggest rival Shakhtar 1-0, which is always good for self-confidence and especially now as both titles slipped through Dynamo fingers last season. Now, they won the first one and on top of it came four-game winning streak in the league. One of victories was again against Shakhtar, which was won 1-0 at home and for the time being Dynamo is the only team with the perfect score, although it played one match fewer than most of other teams.
Dynamo defeated Oleksandriya on Saturday, team that was also undefeated before the match and that was the fifth time they won by 1-0, including the Super Cup. Dynamo is not particularly efficient, although in two matches with Slavia Prague in the third qualifying round of the Champions League all this looked a bit more different. They had a lead in Preague till the very finish but the match ended as draw 1-1, while in Kyiv Dynamo won 2-0. The team was rejuvenated and right now its best player is Slovenian Verbic, while out of newcomers midfielder Tche Tche could have his debut.
Probable lineups Dynamo Kyiv: Boyko – Kedziora, Burda, Kadar, Pivaric – Tche Tche, Shepelev – Garmash, Sydorchuk, Verbic – Besyedin
Dynamo is in a bit better shape at the beginning of season but Ajax played well qualifiers for the Champions League, which is why we are going to play on it in the 1st leg, if for nothing else than because of the home-field advantage.
Pick: Ajax wins 1.69 -
